Cytagliptin drug information

Medication Information: The hormone insulin is naturally synthesized in the body. This hormone is made in the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone that controls the level of blood sugar in the body. If the body can not produce enough insulin, it can lead to a condition called diabetes mellitus.

People with diabetes need treatment to control their blood sugar levels. This is because proper blood sugar control reduces the future consequences of diabetes. Sitagaliptin increases blood insulin levels by controlling blood sugar in the body. It also lowers the hormone glucagon. Glucagon causes the liver to produce more sugar. As a result, glucose levels drop as glucagon levels fall.

Sitagaliptin, brand Janumet, is made in combination with metformin for diabetics.

Contraindications to cytagliptin

  • Note the expiration date of the sitagliptin drug and do not take it if the expired medicine is out of date.
  • Never give cytagliptin to anyone else, even if you have the same symptoms.
  • Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor for cytagliptin.
  • Check for drug interactions with sitagliptin and be sure to tell your doctor what other medication you are taking.

Drug interaction of cytagliptin

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter and herbal medicines) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Many medications can affect your blood sugar levels and make it difficult to control your blood sugar. Before you start, stop, or change any medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how to take the medicine (the medicine that works on your blood sugar level). Check your blood sugar levels regularly and consult your doctor if you notice a sudden change in your blood sugar (high or low blood sugar). If you have serious side effects, talk to your doctor about changing your medication dose, exercise program, and diet.

Beta-blockers (such as metoprolol, propranolol, glaucoma eye drops such as timolol) may prevent heart palpitations, which are commonly seen in hypoglycemia. Other symptoms of low blood sugar, such as dizziness, hunger, or sweating, are not affected by these medications.

Tips to consider before taking sitagliptin

Some medications cannot be prescribed under certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed; Therefore, it is best for your doctor to know the following before taking cytagliptin:

  • If you decide to have a baby, if you are pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding.
  • If you have kidney problems.
  • If you are currently taking certain medications. These include all available medicines, whether prescribed or used by your doctor, such as herbal medicines and supplements.
  • If you have ever been allergic to a particular medicine.

Possible side effects of cytagliptin

All drugs, along with their positive effects, can cause unwanted side effects in the body. However, these complications do not occur in all people. Over time, your body will adjust to the new medication and these symptoms will go away, but if the following symptoms persist or become painful, consult your doctor.

Headaches and general body aches: Ask your doctor to prescribe a suitable painkiller.

Feeling bored, bloated: Eat simple foods and avoid high-fat and spicy foods.

Cough, throat and nose infections: Talk to your doctor if these things bother you.

Important Note: Some people who take cytagliptin experience persistent abdominal pain. If you notice such a complication, tell your doctor as soon as possible; This problem may be due to pancreatic problems.

Talk to your doctor if you have any other symptoms that you feel may be due to taking cytagliptin.

How to store cytagliptin
