Rifampin Drug Information | Rifampicin

Rifampicin, or rifampin, is an antibiotic prescribed to treat a variety of serious infections such as tuberculosis, meningitis, and Haemophilus influenzae. This antibiotic is often prescribed as a treatment for tuberculosis (TB).

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that mainly affects the lungs but can affect other parts of the body as well. This infection can be treated with a 6-month course of medication. Several drugs must be used to treat tuberculosis. Rifampin is just one of these drugs.

Rifampicin is usually given as a combination of two, three, or four pills. Above, we introduced these hybrid brands of Rifampicin (Rifinah, Rifater, Voractiv) to you. These brands are called Rifater (pyrosinamide, isoniazid with rifampin) and Voractive (isoniazid with rifampin, pyrazinamide and ethambutol). Each of these brands may be prescribed at different stages of the disease. The use of combination drugs reduces the frequency of drug use.
