Ranitidine Drug Information

Drug Information: Ranitidine belongs to a group of drugs that reduce the production of acid by the cells lining the stomach. These drugs are called histamine H2 receptor antagonists. But they are commonly called H2 inhibitors. Ranitidine is useful in treating diseases caused by overproduction of stomach acid. These diseases include stomach ulcers, duodenal ulcers, gastric reflux and indigestion.

Ranitidine is also used to treat stomach ulcers caused by NSAIDs. Acid is made naturally in the body to digest food. Too much acid can damage the stomach wall and cause inflammation and ulcers. This process can reduce the symptoms and improve the treatment process. It can be taken with or without a prescription from pharmacies to treat indigestion and heartburn.

Contraindications to ranitidine

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter medicines and herbal products) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Some drugs that may interact with this drug include: clostazol, clopidogrel, methotrexate (especially high-dose therapy), rifampin, and St. John's wort.
