Medication Information: Quinagolide prevents the overproduction of the hormone prolactin. Prolactin is a female hormone that stimulates milk production in women during breastfeeding. This hormone also helps regulate the levels of other hormones in the body.

If a person has hyperprolactinemia, the level of the hormone prolactin is higher than normal. Hyperprolactinemia has different symptoms, although the symptoms are somewhat different between men and women. In men, symptoms include decreased libido and erectile problems.
