Nadolol Drug Information

Drug Information: Nadolol belongs to a group of drugs called beta blockers. It is prescribed to treat several diseases. Nadolol affects the heart and blood vessels.

Nadolol blocks the activity of some neurons in the heart by blocking the activity of the heart. It blocks small parts of the heart (the receptor for chemical messages) where nerve messages reach. As a result, the heart will beat slower and less intensely. This lowers blood pressure inside the arteries and helps reduce the symptoms of high blood pressure and rapid heart rate. This mechanism helps reduce pain in angina.

Nadolol is also used to treat the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, in which the heart rate is high and there is tremor in the hands and feet. This medicine reduces these symptoms quickly. Nadolol is also used to treat migraines; Nadolol is especially effective for people who have not been treated with other therapies.
