Pharmacological information of mupirocin ointment

Medication Information: Mupirocin is an antibiotic that is prescribed as an ointment or cream for use on the skin to treat skin infections. It is specifically prescribed to treat infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Mupirocin ointment kills the bacteria that cause the infection. In addition, there is an ointment containing mupirocin to kill intranasal bacteria. This prevents MRSA from spreading to other people.
