Macrogel Drug Information

Drug Information: Macrogel belongs to a group of drugs called laxatives. These drugs are used to treat constipation or to clean the colon before colonoscopy. These drugs are also called polyethylene glycols. Macrogels are identified by their molecular weight. For example, the macrogli used to treat constipation is called "3350".

Constipation is a problem caused by various factors. Lack of fiber in the diet and low fluid intake can lead to constipation. Some conditions (pregnancy), sedentary lifestyle or taking certain medications can lead to constipation. Macrogels make it easier to pass stool by laxative and increase stool water.

Intestinal cleansers contain different macrogels and are not suitable for treating constipation. These macrogels are prescribed for bowel cleansing before medical examinations and their brands are Klean-Prep and Moviprep. Macrogel is used in pharmacies to treat constipation (under the brands CosmoCol, Movicol, Laxido, Molaxole).

Contraindications Macrogel

Note the expiration date of Macrogel and do not take it if it has expired.

Never give Macrogel to anyone else, even if you have the same symptoms.

Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Check for macroglial drug interactions and be sure to tell your doctor what other medications you are taking.

Macrogell drug interaction
Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter and herbal medicines) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Tips to consider before taking Macrogel

Some medications can not be prescribed under certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed. Therefore, it is best for your doctor to be aware of the following before taking Macrogel:

  • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding.
  • If you have digestive problems such as constipation and Crohn's disease.
  • If you have heart disease.
  • If this medicine is for a child. This is because taking any medication in children should be under the supervision of a doctor.
  • If you are taking certain medications. These medicines include all the medicines available, whether you are prescribed them or taking them without a doctor's prescription, such as herbal medicines and complementary medicines.
  • If you have a history of an allergic reaction to another medicine.

Possible side effects of Macrogel

All medications can cause side effects. But many consumers also do not experience any side effects. Some of the side effects go away after a short time of taking the medicine. In case of persistent side effects, the doctor should be informed:

Abdominal pain, bloating, nausea: These effects do not last more than a few days. Drinking more water can help.

Talk to your doctor if you have any symptoms that you think may be caused by this medicine.

How to store Macrogel

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

Keep the medicine in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
