Macrogel Drug Information
Drug Information: Macrogel belongs to a group of drugs called laxatives. These drugs are used to treat constipation or to clean the colon before colonoscopy. These drugs are also called polyethylene glycols. Macrogels are identified by their molecular weight. For example, the macrogli used to treat constipation is called "3350".
Constipation is a problem caused by various factors. Lack of fiber in the diet and low fluid intake can lead to constipation. Some conditions (pregnancy), sedentary lifestyle or taking certain medications can lead to constipation. Macrogels make it easier to pass stool by laxative and increase stool water.
Intestinal cleansers contain different macrogels and are not suitable for treating constipation. These macrogels are prescribed for bowel cleansing before medical examinations and their brands are Klean-Prep and Moviprep. Macrogel is used in pharmacies to treat constipation (under the brands CosmoCol, Movicol, Laxido, Molaxole).
