Glimpiride Pharmacological Information

Medication Information: Insulin is a hormone that is naturally made in your pancreas. Insulin helps control blood sugar. If your body does not make enough insulin or does not use it effectively, you will develop a condition called diabetes mellitus (diabetes mellitus).

People with diabetes need treatment to control their blood sugar levels; Because good blood sugar control reduces the risk of further complications. Some people can control their blood sugar by making changes to their diet, but for others, taking medications such as glimpiride along with dietary changes can be effective in controlling blood sugar.

Glimpiride increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. Glimpiride is prescribed to the patient along with other anti-diabetic drugs or insulin.

Contraindications Glimpiride

• Pay attention to the expiration date of the medicine and do not take it if the medicine in your hand has expired.

Never give the medicine to anyone else, even if you have the same symptoms.

• Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor. Because you have low blood sugar.

Check for drug interactions and be sure to tell your doctor what other medications you are taking.

Glympyrid drug interaction

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter and herbal medicines) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Many medications can affect your blood sugar levels and make it difficult for you to control your blood sugar. Before you start, stop, or change any medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how to take the medicine (the medicine that works on your blood sugar level). Check your blood sugar levels regularly and consult your doctor if you notice a sudden change in your blood sugar (high or low blood sugar). If you have serious side effects, talk to your doctor about changing your medication dose, exercise program, and diet.

Beta-blockers (such as metoprolol, propranolol, glaucoma eye drops such as thymolol) may prevent heart palpitations, which are commonly felt during hypoglycemia. Other symptoms of low blood sugar, such as dizziness, hunger, or sweating, are not affected by these medications.

Check the labels on all your medicines (such as cough and cold medicines). Because they may contain ingredients that affect your blood sugar. Talk to your pharmacist about taking glimpiride.

Tips to consider before taking glimpiride

Some medications are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed; Therefore, it is best for your doctor to know the following before taking glimpiride:

• If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding.

• If you have any kidney or liver disease.

• If you have a condition called porphyria (a rare inherited blood disorder) or glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, both of which are inherited.

• If you are taking certain medications. These medicines include all the medicines available, whether you are prescribed them or taking them without a doctor's prescription, such as herbal medicines and complementary medicines.

• If you have a history of an allergic reaction to another medicine.

Possible side effects of glipiride

All medications can cause side effects; But many consumers also do not experience any side effects. Some of the side effects go away shortly after taking the medicine. In case of persistent side effects, the doctor should be informed:

Feeling weak and sick, diarrhea, constipation

Symptoms associated with hypoglycemia: Feeling shaky or anxious, sweating, paleness, hunger, palpitations, dizziness

Talk to your doctor if you experience any symptoms that you feel may be due to glimpiride.
