Clobazam Drug Information

Clobazam belongs to a group of antiepileptic and anticonvulsant drugs that are prescribed for adults and children. Seizures occur due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. These abnormal electrical activities in turn cause seizure symptoms. Because different parts of the brain control different parts of the body. So which part of the body has a seizure depends on the area where the abnormal activity occurs. Sometimes a seizure can affect the whole brain and body, which is called a secondary seizure.

Clobazam is one of the most common drugs used to prevent seizures. This drug normalizes the electrical activity of the brain and reduces the symptoms of seizures by reducing abnormal electrical changes in the brain.

Dosage and method of taking clobazam

  • Read the package leaflet carefully before starting treatment with clobazam. This brochure will help you to get comprehensive information about the drug and its possible side effects.
  • The dose and amount of clobazam varies from person to person depending on the disease; Use the medicine exactly as your doctor advised.
  • Your doctor will advise you to start taking clobazam at a lower dose in the first week and then increase the dose over time so that your body gets used to the medicine over time.
  • You can take clobazam with or without food. Swallow clobazam tablets with water and use a syringe to take the oral medication to use the dose correctly.
  • If you forget to take your daily dose at the right time, take it whenever you can; If you do not remember to take your medicine until the next dose, do not take the missed dose. You should not take two doses of the medicine together because of the missed dose.

Contraindications to clobazam

  • Note the expiration date of clobazam and do not take it if it has expired.
  • Never give clobazam to another person, even if you have the same symptoms.
  • Check for drug interactions, and if you are taking a drug that interacts with this medication, talk to your doctor about using your medications.

Clobazam during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, you should not use the drug arbitrarily without consulting your doctor. Medications can have devastating effects on the fetus or on yourself.

The effect of clobazam on driving and working with machines

This medicine will make you drowsy, make sure you are alert before driving or operating machinery. Also, people with epilepsy should not drive until their treatment is complete. The doctor informs the patient when he can start driving again; This time is usually after a year without seizures.

Clobazam drug interactions

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter and herbal medicines) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Clobazam may interact with Orlistat and Sodium Oxibate, do not use these two medicines without consulting your doctor.

Other drugs can affect the removal and function of clobazam. These drugs include: fluconazole, fluvoxamine

If you are taking medicines that cause drowsiness, tell your doctor or pharmacist, including: alcohol, antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine), sleeping pills or anxiety medications (such as alprazolam) (alprazolam) , Diazepam, zolpidem, muscle relaxants, and analgesics and analgesics (such as codeine and hydrocodone).

Check the labels on all your medicines (such as allergies or cough and cold medicines) because some of them contain substances that cause drowsiness or increase the risk of bleeding. Ask your doctor about using them so you can use them safely.

Clobazam may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. This can lead to pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about a reliable method of birth control and use an effective method (latex condom or polyurethane) to control pregnancy throughout your sexual activity. Talk to your doctor if you have severe spotting or bleeding, as this may be a sign that your hormonal pregnancy control is not working well.
