Cholera vaccine medication information

The cholera vaccine is used to prevent a cholera infection caused by a specific bacterium (V. cholerae). Eating contaminated food or drinking water can cause a person to become infected with the bacterium. The cholera vaccine is recommended for adults who go to areas where cholera infection is common. The cholera vaccine contains live and weak bacteria and produces antibodies against this bacterium in the body, thus protecting the body against the disease.

To prevent getting cholera, you should avoid contaminated food or water (mineral water, boiled water, and well-cooked foods) while traveling.

The correct amount and method of consumption

Carefully read the package leaflet before starting the cholera vaccine treatment. This brochure will help you to get information about the drug and its possible side effects.

The cholera vaccine is usually given by a nurse or doctor 10 days before traveling to high-risk areas.

Avoid eating and drinking 1 hour before and 1 hour after the cholera vaccine.

Contraindications to the cholera vaccine

Note the expiration date of the cholera vaccine, and do not take the medicine if it has expired.

Never give Cholera Vaccines to another person, even if you have the same symptoms.

Check for drug interactions with the cholera vaccine, and if you are using a drug that interacts with this cholera, talk to your doctor about using your medications.

Use of cholera vaccine during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, you should not use the drug arbitrarily and without consulting your doctor.

The effect of Cholera Vaccines on driving

The cholera vaccine does not cause drowsiness or dizziness, there is no need to avoid driving or operating machinery.

Cholera vaccine drug interaction

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter and herbal medicines) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

If you are taking oral or injectable antibiotics, you should not get the cholera vaccine for 14 days after taking the antibiotic.

Avoid taking certain medications (chloroquine) to prevent malaria while receiving the cholera vaccine. Take this vaccine at least 10 days before starting treatment with chloroquine.

Cholera Vaccines Warning

Some medications may not be prescribed under certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed; Therefore, it is best for your doctor to be aware of the following before taking the cholera vaccine:

  • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding.

Diarrhea: Drink plenty of water to replenish lost water.
