Chlordiazepoxide Drug Information

Chlordiazepoxide affects the function of neurotransmitters (responsible for transmitting messages to brain cells), is sedative, and is therefore very useful for reducing anxiety. Therefore, chlordiazepoxide is sometimes given for a short time to reduce anxiety.

Chlordiazepoxide also has a muscle relaxant effect and is used to help relieve withdrawal symptoms. People who are addicted to alcohol have a habit of consuming a lot of alcohol, and when they quit, 3-8 hours after the last drink, they develop withdrawal symptoms. Chlordiazepoxide prevents the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and is therefore prescribed for a short time after quitting alcohol.
